About Partilinjen

The Riksdag, readable for everyone.

Partilinjen is an independent archive of what the Swedish Riksdag decides. Every committee report, every vote and every speech is fetched from the Riksdag's open data and presented so that a case can be followed from proposal to decision – and so you can see which line every party and every member held.

Sources

All data comes from data.riksdagen.se, the Riksdag Administration's open data. From there we fetch committee reports with decision points, proposals and reservations; voting results for each of the 349 seats; the chamber records with every speech; and the register of members with assignments, constituencies and portraits.

The archive covers the parliamentary sessions from 2022/23 onwards. New votes, debates and decisions are fetched continuously, normally within an hour of the Riksdag publishing them. The English edition translates the interface and the AI summaries; source documents and speeches remain in Swedish.

How we count

Attendance is the share of votes in which the member cast a vote (yes, no or abstain). Absence does not necessarily say anything about diligence: the Riksdag practises pairing, and members are often travelling on duty or on parental leave with a substitute in place.

Party line is the option chosen by a majority of the party's present members in a vote. A member counts as a dissenter when they voted differently from that majority. If the group is evenly split there is no line and nobody counts as a dissenter.

Headline vote for a case in the lists is the substantive vote with the narrowest margin between yes and no – usually the most politically contested point. Votes on the committee's reasoning are shown separately on the case page.

Seating in the chamber follows the Riksdag's official seating plan. Members sit by constituency, not by party. Ministers hold none of the 349 seats and do not vote; a member who becomes a minister is replaced by a substitute. Which member sits on which bench is taken from the latest voting records, so a member who has not voted for a long time may be missing from the map.

About the AI summaries

The heading and the short description of each case, as well as the texts “What the Riksdag decided” and “What was contested”, are written by a language model from the committee report's own summary, the decision points and the voting results. They are meant as an entry point, not as a rendering of the Riksdag's position.

The model is instructed to be neutral, stick to the source material and avoid loaded words. Errors can still occur. The official title and a link to the committee report on riksdagen.se are always shown alongside.

Independence

Partilinjen is a non-profit project with no ties to the Riksdag, any party or any interest group. No personal data is collected about visitors beyond an anonymous count of how many read a case.
